Flint Michigan Water Filtration Installation Project
Dear Disaster Relief Leaders Most of you have heard about the ongoing “quality of water” issue in Flint, Michigan. Today I was on a conference call with the National Disaster Relief Leadership. The State Emergency Management leadership of Michigan has requested Southern Baptist Disaster Relief to help in the continuing response to this water contamination problem. Over the next several months Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Teams from around the country are asked to come to Flint, MI to help install water filter systems in individual homes. This is very different than most disaster responses. But because Southern Baptist Disaster Relief had such an impact after the flooding in Warren, MI (we sent five teams from Illinois) the Michigan Emergency Operations Center is asking specifically for Southern Baptists to help them again. I have attached a document with the “Scope of Work” statement giving details of the work needed. Each week (for approximately 6 months) the request is for 18 people to help with the Water Filtration Installation Project. This would include 5 teams of three people each who will work to install the filter systems in individual homes. In addition to these 15 people there would be a need for 2 cooks and 1 “Operations Leader” to work with the overall project managers to coordinate the work each day. You would not need a trailer or any heavy equipment. As much as possible you would need to enlist teams of three who can work together to install the filters. You do not have to enlist all 18 volunteers but you can certainly do that if you are able. If you only have a team of 3 then you could go if there are openings during the week of your interest. If you need assistance in putting together teams, I suggest you first communicate with your regional leaders to put together teams of 3. When you have a specific group and a specific week, then communicate directly to me and I will pass this information on to the NAMB DOC and then confirm your week back to you. The DR project leaders in Flint will provide some basic training for teams to install the filters. Since these DR teams are going into homes, it is important that responding individuals are credentialed DR workers with a background check. Read over the attachment and then feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Thanks for considering this Disaster Relief Ministry opportunity in Flint, Michigan. cid:67A0AE49-0203-41DE-A8ED-B761E6893659 Rex Alexander Specialized Missions Mobilization Director Illinois Baptist State Association 217 391 3134
